There is a fisherman's guild which most of the fishermen in the area belong to, but its actual power in Fishertown is less than one might expect. For one thing, despite Fishertown being the city's center of fishing activity, the fisherman's guildhall is not technically in Fishertown, but in a neighboring district. Furthermore, the current guildmaster, Norson Oberyt, does not live in Fishertown either; while he did work as a fisherman in his youth, he currently runs a restaurant near the town center.

All that being the case, the fisherman's guild still does play a role in setting policies and guidelines, and it does have considerable influence in the district. However, there is one individual who probably personally has more influence over the goings-on in Fishertown than the guild as a whole: an old fisherwoman named Leothilde "Granny" Varragon. One of Fishertown's oldest residents, Varragon still goes out every day and works the nets despite her advanced age, and she probably knows more about what's going on in the area than anyone else. (She also has developed considerable spellcasting ability, which she uses judiciously to help her fishing.) Many of the fishermen in Fishertown are her descendants, but even many of those who aren't call her "Granny" and afford her considerable respect. Even Guildmaster Oberyt himself more often than not follows Varragon's advice.
